Are you stressed out about Thanksgiving? I’m not. Don’t hate me but it’s Monday, there is plenty of time left to prepare and ROCK Thanksgiving!
It’s all about preparation. I’m a planning guru, especially when it comes to events. Thanksgiving is an event.
That means I won’t be cooking a lot of dinners this week so I can reserve plenty of room in the fridge for Thanksgiving food.
I’m skipping the meal plan, instead giving you some Thanksgiving tips so you can stop stressing too.
Plan the Menu
Frantically searching Pinterest on Wednesday night is a bad idea and it won’t end well. I celebrate Thanksgiving with two other families and we have already decided who is to bring what. If you know what you are bringing, make sure you have the recipe. If not, you may realize too late that you need more nutritional yeast or that you don’t have enough serving dishes.
Make A List
Now that you know what you will be eating, you need to make a list. Pull all of the recipes in front of you and write down all the ingredients you need. Don’t forget:
- Napkins
- Plates, flatware and cups if you are doing disposable.
- Condiments
- Toilet paper if you are hosting, trust me!
- Foil or parchment paper, I always run out at the holidays.
- Drinks
Also if you are using my Holiday Meal Plan and Cookbook it contains a shopping list for my top 6 recipes. Basically if you’ve been living in denial and haven’t even thought about what to make just stop and buy this now!
Do Your Shopping Now
It’s Monday, if you haven’t completed your shopping yet do it today, even if you have to go at 10:00 p.m. tonight, just do it. It will only get crazier as you get closer to Thanksgiving and you’ll have to go to three different stores to get everything you need.
Plus, you will feel better when it is done.
Make Food Ahead of Time
A lot of Thanksgiving food can be made ahead of time. Mashed Potatoes, Sweet Potato Casserole, Green Bean Casserole and Cranberry Sauce are all just as good a few days later.
Finish Cleaning by Tuesday
If you are hosting Thanksgiving you have to worry about more than just food, you have to have everything clean and potentially child-proofed. In the bathroom clean the sink/mirror area and whatever people will see when they sit on or stand in front of the toilet. The other areas are less important.
If you are going to have small children or infants around, pick up small items that could become a chocking hazard and anything fragile.
If your guests are bringing food that will need to be placed in your refrigerator, microwave or oven you’ll want to give those a good wipe down too.

By the way, I don’t plug the book to make money, although it is worth it, I do it because I believe it will really help make your Thanksgiving so much easier with the added bonus of being delicious!
Off the Hook
No, I’m not saying this Thanksgiving will be “off the hook,” I’m letting you off the hook. Pay attention!
There is no such thing as a perfect Thanksgiving. It is not your job to make everything perfect. Perfection is ridiculous, it’s a lie.
Thanksgiving is about family, friends and being thankful (and about food too). You can do that with paper napkins, mismatched plates, plastic forks and store-bought pie.
You may be stuck sharing the day with people who don’t understand that but don’t let them suck you into that trap.
Choose to enjoy your family and friends.
Choose to let go of the little things.
Choose to be thankful. Happy Thanksgiving!
