Enough is enough! If you haven’t seen “Forks Over Knives” you need to order Netflix, Amazon Prime, go buy the DVD or find a friend who has already done one of those things. I don’t know if you can be completely convinced that a Plant-Based Diet is the healthiest way to eat until you watch that movie or read from some of the authors presented in it. I’m serious! Make plans to watch it today!

I know a lot of really great people who think they are making good choices regarding their health but sadly they are not. Most of us have been taught that 3 servings of dairy and “lean” meat are the way to health; can I boldly disagree. We are looking at a health crisis; obesity, heart-disease, diabetes, and many cancers are completely preventable if you eat the right things. Alternatively, they are almost guaranteed if you eat what the Standard American Diet.
I am normally not so outspoken on this topic. I prefer to encourage and equip others to eat better. When I hear about strokes, heart attacks, cancer in my family and friends my heart breaks and I wonder if I should have spoken up, I should have grabbed them my the shoulders, looked them eyes and plead with them. So now I’m doing that to you. My hands are on your shoulders, I’m looking you square in the eyes, please…enough is enough, it’s time to save your life, it’s time to save your family’s life, let me help.
I hope I don’t offend any of you but sometimes a little offense can help spur change.
I love you my friends and I so appreciate all of you who read this blog. You encourage me daily. Thank you!

I have been plant strong for about 11 weeks…after watching Forks over Knives….you are so right about not being able to have the impact of this lifestyle and how it can save your life without watching the video! I just bought it so maybe just maybe my husband will stop making fun of me and buying Buster Bars from DQ to tempt me….perhaps, he will join my team and then he can stop taking his 15 pills a day! Pray for us! Thank you for your blog….I love it!

Sharon, I hope he watches it with you. Even if he isn’t on board for himself I’m sure it would help him be more supportive. My husband said he couldn’t deny what he heard; he hadn’t planned on switching to plant-based before watching Forks Over Knives.
I will pray for you guys!

It is something that I am happy Jim spoke to Luke about. It is making such a difference in our lives and we haven’t even totally transitioned yet(cheese–although significantly less; and chicken or fish once or twice a week–much better than some form of meat every night though). It’s only been a couple of weeks, but we are already seeing benefits . I have been so affected that I am spreading it to my sister and her kids and encouraging my sister daily as she tries to change their lives too. Your blog is having a positive affect on people’s lives and I turn here daily trying to figure out stuff! Oh and your chocolate cookies… HUGE hit in my house. We were die hard o bake cookie fans, but I have been changed for the better! LOL

Oh Jackie! I’m so happy for you guys! Jim cares so much about Luke and values his friendship.
I’m excited about your transition, and that you are spreading the word to your family. I’m happy to help in any way I can. Just think of the impact healthy eating will have on your family for years to come.
I’m glad you like the cookies, my banana bread is a family favorite here!

I totally agree! Both my family and my husbands family has severe medical problems, all that can be cured with diet changes, but they do not listen, do not care and love the “there is a pill for that” lifestyle. We have been plant strong now for a little over a year and LOVE it! Forks over Knives was a great film and I too recommend it to everyone!

YES! You are so right, Holly. It’s a thin line between nagging/bothering someone and wanting them to change their lives because it just might save their lives! It would be nearly impossible to watch FOK and not make huge changes.

The new Forks Over Knives cookbook is now available for immediate shipping and it has over 300 recipes…that would be a great gift for those wondering “how” to live plant strong.

I’m pretty sure you can also watch it for free on hulu. I watched it a few weeks ago and am seriously considering going plant based myself. I’m having a bit of a slower time in deciding and figuring stuff out because I went to school for nutrition and hadn’t heard much of what was presented in FOK. I actually started following your blog after watching it to explore more.
On another note, I love God and wonder/compare/relate my willingness to share about my faith with my willingness to recommend (strongly) different things to people: like how awesome pinterest is for decluttering your bookmarks or how everyone should love The Lumineers. People dont usually see me as an offensive person for doing so, but I often fear if I get really excited and strongly recommend accepting Jesus as your savior people would get all uncomfortable. What would my life look like if I was as excited and willing to talk to people about how Jesus could change their life as I am to tell them how gmail will change their email life?
Just some thoughts. Also, I think you can talk all you want about how great you think going plant based is cuz this is your space =]

Suzie, Thank you so much for your comment! I’m excited that you are intrigued about going plant-based. Before watching Forks Over Knives I hadn’t heard any of what was presented either.
I see the same parallels about sharing my faith and sharing about healthy living. As a Christian I believe that we should honor God with our bodies, that includes what we put into our bodies.
I wish you success on your journey!

Couldn’t agree more!!! We are new to this adventure in veganism/vegetarian (we are still learning it all), but have been clean eating for more than a year. Thank you for posting. It is nice to meet another family on a similar journey. Together we can change the future for our children so they don’t have endure all the health problems and food junk.
