Gratituesday

Gratituesday: A Change of Pace

April 24, 2012 by Holly Yzquierdo Leave a Comment

We’ve been spending a few days visiting family. Even though traveling brings it’s own work it has been nice to avoid laundry, dishes, and the normal household chores.
I’m grateful for the time we got to share with family. My boys loved spending time outside running around with their grandparents. They also got to see aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, great-grandparents, and one of my great friends and her family.

Gratituesday: Time with Friends

April 17, 2012 by Holly Yzquierdo Leave a Comment

For the past five years Tuesday mornings have been a day I would spend time with girlfriends at our weekly Bible study/group therapy sessions/brunch. Childcare is provided so we can just sit together and have a great time with out changing diapers, cleaning up messes, or any of the other things we normally do during that time period. This year I have only been able to attend a few times and I sure have missed it.

I’m so grateful for the women I get to spend time with, the ladies who volunteer their time to love on our babies, and our church who provides a place for us to get together.

What do you do to keep your sanity during the hustle and bustle of a busy week?

Gratituesday: Easter

April 10, 2012 by Holly Yzquierdo Leave a Comment

This last weekend we celebrated Easter. As a kid I looked forward to an Easter basket filled with candy and small toys, a big meal and spending the day with family.

How time has changed; this year there were no baskets, no toys, and no big family meal. I do not think those things are bad we just chose not to focus on them. Instead I want to focus on my Savior, Jesus.

I believe that Jesus is the son of God, that He died and rose from the grave and ascended to heaven as the scriptures foretold.

I believe that his life and death paid the penalty for my sin, something I could never deserve or pay on my own.

I believe He did this because of His great love for us.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

I am not offended if you choose a different path. I won’t debate my beliefs, but I will not waiver. I don’t live out my faith perfectly. I fail miserably sometimes all the time, but I am grateful that Jesus will not fail me.

Gratituesday: Big Kid Time

April 3, 2012 by Holly Yzquierdo Leave a Comment

Our big kids are visiting this week! They are all teenagers and live with their mom in a different part of the country. This is their Spring Break so we are excited to get to spend some time with them. They are also planning to spend time with a few of their friends. Our three year old is especially grateful to have this time with his big brother’s and sister. They are really good kids and we miss them.

What are you grateful for today? Check out Heavenly Homemakers to see how Laura and her guests are spending Gratituesday!

Gratituesday: Simple Things

March 27, 2012 by Holly Yzquierdo Leave a Comment

Simple things make my heart happy.

A cup of coffee

Staying in bed a few more minutes

Stinky baby toes

Time with my husband

A verse of scripture that speaks to the heart

A quiet house (but only for a little while)

Chocolate

The way our babysitter LOVES our boys

A new recipe that works

Trying new things

Warm, homemade soup

Sun light streaming through the windows

Visits from family and friends

Our church family

Seeing my boys grow

Time in prayer

New friends

Anticipation

Long hugs

Faithful friends

Just Simple Things

Every week Laura at Heavenly Homemakers hosts a Gratituesday link up. If you are in need of encouragement head over to see what other bloggers are thankful for.

Gratituesday: Abundance

March 20, 2012 by Holly Yzquierdo Leave a Comment

We have been eating leftovers since Friday, and we love it. I made a huge feast for us and some friends and I even sent home some of the leftovers with them. Truth be told, if there leftovers weren’t as tasty we may not be as grateful, but we should be.

If we go hungry it is because of choice, not because of means. We have been blessed. We can’t afford everything we want but we can usually buy everything we need.

We have made the choice to invest in good, healthy, whole food. This doesn’t have to be as expensive as some say it is but it isn’t super cheap either. We don’t always buy organic but sometimes do. The food we buy rarely comes in boxes, it is often not on sale, and there are no coupons.

My family eats healthy food everyday. There are some days where we eat too many animal crackers or make poor choices based on poor planning or junk food cravings but on the whole what we eat nourishes our bodies.

I’m so thankful that we have the means to feed our family well. We don’t have the latest gadgets, we don’t have cable, and if we are up on the latest trends it is by accident BUT we have our health! Our health is fueled by our food!

To read about how I overcame multiple health problems including reoccurring UTIs, bladder spasms, and a possible interstitial cystitis diagnosis read my story here.

I’m happy to say I’m still symptom free which is another thing to be thankful for!
