Enjoy Life Foods Giveaway

August 19, 2015 by Holly Yzquierdo 25 Comments

enjoy life foods giveaway

What is your favorite kind of cookie? Normally I’m all about any thing with chocolate but if you really want to know my favorite I’ll tell you.

My favorite cookies are cookies that I don’t have to cook. Really, it is too hot here in Arizona. 115° people, that is hot. I am not interested in turning on the oven.

Since my son has food allergies I have to stick to nut-free and gluten-free cookies. Most store-bought cookies that are safe for him are about as appetizing as hockey pucks.

Enjoy Life Foods Soft Baked Cookies make the BEST gluten-free cookie I’ve ever had. That is no exaggeration.

Reasons I Love Enjoy Life Foods Soft Baked Cookies

  • Gluten-Free
  • Top 8 allergen-free
  • Taste great (no weird or stale or odd GF taste like other GF cookies)
  • Soft baked heaven
  • You can buy them in bulk on Amazon
  • 4 flavors to choose from (Snickerdoodle is my favorite)
  • Perfect size for a small treat

Movie Night Snack Box

We aren’t a “dessert every day” kind of family but I always have the cookies handy. We use them:

  • In lunch boxes
  • Family movie nights
  • Sandwich cookies
  • To keep at school for an allergy safe treat
  • Those days I really need a cookie

Enjoy Life Foods Soft Baked Cookies Giveaway

Enjoy Life Foods is offering one lucky winner (US only) the chance to get 4 boxes (one of each flavor) of Soft Baked Cookies for FREE!

EasyLunchboxes Giveaway

August 5, 2015 by Holly Yzquierdo 77 Comments

Easy Lunchboxes giveaway

I am so excited about the giveaway today! Last year about this time I purchased the EasyLunchbox system for my boys to use. After a year I can tell you, I couldn’t be happier with the purchase.

Easy Lunchboxes giveaway

The EasyLunchBox containers are durable, easy to use and clean, and affordable.

Take a look at my favorite features:

  • Dishwasher safe top AND bottom rack
  • Microwave safe
  • Easy for my kids to open (my youngest was 3 last year)
  • Divided containers
  • Fits into an amazing lunch bag (more info below)

Lunch Box Ideas

My only regret about last year’s lunch box buy is at first I chose a different insulated bag foolishly thinking it would be better than the EasyLunchbox bag. During the first week of school the inside seem of the other (non-EasyLunchbox bag) ripped on the bottom seams. In addition to that it did not retain it’s shape. I quickly ordered an EasyLunchBox bag (affiliate link).

insulated lunch bags

Later this month I’ll share more lunch box tips but don’t miss out on all of the great tips from last year. Read about my favorite Lunch Box Essentials and these 5 Tips to Simplify Your Lunch Box Routine that has a free printable! Also, follow me on Instagram because I post pictures regularly of our lunches!

EasyLunchboxes Giveaway

This week you have a chance to win your very own EasyLunchbox system!

This giveaway is open to US residents only. One winner will be chosen and will win one set of EasyLunchboxes container and one lunch bag.

You don’t have to wait until the giveaway is over to get an EasyLunchBox system. Purchase them from the EasyLunchboxes website or get free shipping on Amazon for the containers, lunch bag and mini dippers.

No Biggie Bunch Book Giveaway

October 22, 2014 by Holly Yzquierdo 7 Comments

trade or treat halloween

If you have a kid with food allergies you’ve probably already heard of The No Biggie Bunch. If you haven’t you are in for a treat!

Last month I went to the Food Allergy Bloggers Conference and bought the whole No Biggie Bunch Collection. They were sold out of a couple of the books so they had to be shipped to me. There was an error and I got sent an extra copy of Trade-or-Treat Halloween. I emailed the No Biggie Bunch headquarters and asked if they would like me to mail it back or if I could give it to a reader. Guess what, I’m doing a giveaway and one of you is going to win this book! You will love it!

trade or treat halloween

I’ve been wanting these books since I learned about them last summer. This one, Trade-or-Treat Halloween follows the No Biggie Bunch as they go trick or treating. The kids talk about their food allergies and what they need to do with their candy. I’m not going to give all of the details away.

Since Halloween is almost here this is going to be a quick giveaway and will end Friday at midnight (AZ time). I’ll email the winner Saturday, they will have 24 hours to respond or I’ll pick a new winner. I want to mail this book out on Monday morning!

Since I’m paying for shipping this giveaway is for US only. I’m sorry to all of my Canadian readers. I got some shipping quotes and it is VERY expensive. I’ll try to make it up to you one day!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

You can also buy the books from the No Biggie Bunch website or from Amazon! In addition to The No Biggie Bunch Trade-or-Treat Halloween you should also check out The No Biggie Bunch Peanut-Free Tea for Three, The No Biggie Bunch Sports-Tastic Birthday Party
and The No Biggie Bunch Dairy-Free Dino-Licious Dig. If you have Amazon Prime shipping is free.

The Elimination Diet Workbook GIVEAWAY

July 30, 2014 by Holly Yzquierdo 30 Comments

The Elimination Diet Workbook Giveaway

Yesterday I wrote about allergies, intolerances and sensitivities. There is often confusion, dare I say frustration and misunderstanding when it comes to this world. Yes, those living with food allergies (and intolerances) often feel like they are in their own world that doesn’t make sense to those on outside.

food allergies food intolerances and food sensitivitiesBecause we live in that world I am always on the lookout for information and products that make living with food allergies easier. When I find things I like I try to tell you about it. I spend way too much time reading books, researching lunch boxes and medical ID bracelets along with lots of other items. If you find good stuff feel free to email me about it.

One of my recent discoveries is The Elimination Diet Workbook: A Personal Approach to Determining Your Food Allergies by Maggie Moon. I was given a free copy to review and a copy to giveaway.

The Elimination Diet Workbook

This Book Is Not For

This book is not for someone who has experienced anaphylaxis or children! It does not cure food allergies but it can help you understand which foods may be making you sick. The author strongly encourages people to seek medical guidance and use this to supplement information from their doctor.

Allergies and Intolerances

I learned a lot about food allergies from this book. It goes into a lot of detail on the common food allergies (think big 8 plus nickel, corn, banana/latex) and food intolerances that I wasn’t really familiar with like sulfites, benzoates, tartrazine, monosodium glutamate, lactose, and others. Each item discussed is written as a stand-alone section (within a chapter) explaining the allergen and how and where you would come into contact with it, what typical reactions could look like, how to diagnose an allergy or intolerance, and how to get the nutrients you could be missing after eliminating the offending food.

The Elimination Diet

The book walks you through how to prepare for an elimination diet and helps you determine what type of elimination diet is right for you. It’s important not to rush the process. As you eliminate foods then later add them back in you should be able to get a clear picture of which foods are causing problems.

For example, I noticed when I would eat Italian food I would feel bad. Headaches, achy joints, and other random symptoms. I assumed I had a problem with wheat, after all my son had a known wheat allergy. I later learned that I have an intolerance to basil (among other things). Since I would eat wheat pasta and basil together I blamed the wheat without thinking about the basil. By eliminating wheat and still experiencing the same symptoms I can deduce that wheat wasn’t the problem.

Meal Plans and Recipes

This book stresses the importance of meal planning. You know I completely agree the Meal Planning is important and everyone can benefit from it.

They try to make it easy for you by including meal plans (and recipes) you can follow but they include a lot of meat and would not work for us. Since I’m a Meal Planning Extraordinaire (self-proclaimed) I can create a Meal Plan that would work for me but you may need a little help if you are a meal planning novice.

Helpful Tips and Worksheets

There is also a lot of helpful information to help you avoid foods that make you sick. For example, if you need to avoid corn this book has two pages of foods that may contain corn including cough drops, luncheon meats, spaghetti sauce, etc.

The Elimination Diet Workbook takes a lot of the guess-work out of navigating an elimination diet to discover food allergies. I think it is a great first step for those who have experience chronic systems with no known cause.

Win a Copy

You can win a free copy of The Elimination Diet Workbook: A Personal Approach to Determining Your Food Allergies by entering this Rafflecopter Giveaway. This is open to residents in US and Canada. The winner will be notified by email.

Got Energy? Tips and a Giveaway

January 7, 2014 by Holly Yzquierdo 17 Comments

Got Energy

Got Energy

Sometimes I need more energy. I’m guessing you do too!

Admittedly, I have more energy now than I did in my Standard American Diet (SAD) days.

I’ve noticed trends in my energy levels based on activity and food consumption. For example, when I over-eat I feel like a slug and I don’t want to move. That rarely happens anymore. Baked Potatoes are a great food for me. I feel energetic, satisfied and still light enough to move. I’ve learned I don’t tolerate wheat well and it makes me feel cloudy and fatigued. I used to get order a veggie sandwich from a near by sandwich shop; while it was delicious, it didn’t fuel my body well. If you can eat wheat it may be a good choice for you. I love eating Bean, Grain & Veggie Bowls.

My husband usually has a baked sweet potato and a bucket o’ broccoli (raw) for lunch everyday. He feels fantastic! I know that some people react differently to foods so there isn’t a one-size fits all.

Here are a few tips!

1. Get Dressed First Thing in the Morning!

I love lounging around in my pajamas as much as the next girl but it almost guarantees I get nothing done. I need real clothes and shoes on to be productive.

2. Avoid Processed, Empty Calories

When I’m feeling tired or blah my instinct is to reach for a sweet treat or caffeine. Eating and drinking just enough empty calories every few hours to keep you functioning but not thriving is not the way to live.  I remember when I was about 12 years old, I would consume nothing but soda and candy bars for days at a time. My standard lunch was chips and soda. Even on my worst day now, I can see how far I’ve come from that junk food lifestyle.

3.  Eat Nutritious Food!

As mentioned above, I feel great when eating beans and grains, baked potatoes, hearty veggie wraps and soups. I like steamed broccoli but I enjoy it more accompanying potatoes or rice. I like make bowls filled with a variety of plants: potatoes, beans, grains, tomatoes, onions, garlic, broccoli, peppers, spinach and anything else available. This week we have cucumbers and squash to add to our rotation.  All of these foods are nutrient dense and can be mixed and matched for a number of unique meals.

I’ve recently experimented with ENERGYbits®. They are made from 100% organically grown spirulina algae. 30 bits are considered a serving. I tried chewing one up before realizing they are much better swallowed whole. Each bit has just 1 calorie but they are loaded with 40 nutrients have the highest concentration of protein in the world (64%).

I used them as a meal replacement and felt like I had more energy, great mental clarity and no digestive issues. ENERGYbits are not a supplement, they are food; spirulina algae is the only ingredient.

I was given a free sample to try and I’m giving away a sample to a reader! ENERGYbits are only available at ENERGYbits.com, and Jonathan (their Brand Manager) has shared with me that he’d be happy to connect anyone with a current ambassador to share a discount on a bag of bits – you can email him at jlevitt@energybits.com

This giveaway is open to US reader only, the winner will be contacted via email.
